The SB-20 security breach droid, or SB-20 slicer droid, was a line of droids produced by the underground company called “Illicit Electronics.” SB-20 droids were heavily modified R-series astromech droids, especially R1 and R2 units, to which had been added illegal gear and programming suited to espionage and encryption/decryption, such as CodeRifter Encryption Equipment and SecurityViolator security programming. Due to their outward appearance as a common, legal droid, SB-20s could easily gain access to sensitive computer systems, slice into them with their illegal add-ons, and roll away through security checkpoints unnoticed.
Illicit Electronics marketed the SB-20 quietly to other underground groups at a base price of around twelve thousand credits. Imperial Intelligence also managed to acquire some of these droids for their own purposes; one such droid was instrumental in gathering information before the Imperial attack on a Rebel base on Pkihantri.

Arakyd originally marketed the droid to the Empire, saying that the droid could heavily outperform any organic in small arms maintenance. When the Empire called for a test, the AD performed abysmally. According to the final test, the AD only performed 0.0006% more efficient than a trained Imperial weapons technician. Arakyd was shamed. Having assumed that their close ties with the Empire would guarantee a sale, Arakyd had already started full-scale production before the tests even commenced. Stuck with thousands of units priced to sell to the Empire, Arakyd had to change their marketing plan to include mercenary units, local law enforcement agencies and bounty hunters.

Cybot Galactica designed the FEG-series to mimic the creativity of the living pilots, intending them to pilot starships traveling through dangerous space corridors or performing stealthy penetration into hostile territory. As a result, FEG-series droids were more sophisticated than most automated pilot droids available on the market. Constructed on the factory world of Mechis III, 3D-4X droids were common sights in the galaxy, ranging from the Jedi Temple droid pool on the galactic capital Coruscant during the waning years of the Galactic Republic, to docking bays in Mos Espa on Tatooine and they were even found in the employ of crime lords. Although successful, the reputation of the 3D-4X series was damaged when it emerged that one of their number, 3D-4X, had killed his master, Administrator Hekis Durumm Perdo Kolokk Baldikarr Thun, during the takeover of Mechis III by a quartet of IG-88 assassin droids.
